I boiled water, blanched broccoli & shredded broccoli & then cooked whole wheat pasta in the same water. All of this was stirred together with red pepper flakes, then topped with buttery-breadcrumbs mixed with everything bagel seasoning. I put this in the oven to broil and forgot about it until it was almost disaster. But it wasn’t. It wasn’t cute in the bowl… but we ate all of it on the couch last night. Seriously, it’s all gone. I’m Lauren A certified “good eater” as a kid, I was lucky to have been raised in a family where food was more than an afterthought. My parents were avid gardeners and taught me the magic of vegetables. I remember going on expeditions in the backyard with my sister for tiny, perfect, alpine strawberries. Barefoot in the garden, eating handfuls of borage (the best edible flower ever, but that’s a whole other discussion.) Losing a tooth while eating a freshly picked wax bean. Eating slices of juicy tomato generously salted on my grandparents’ sun porch. When I think about these kinds of memories, it’s no wonder that a good Farmer’s Market haul brings me so much joy.
